Research on college magazine.

  • Image-the shot type is a mid shot, looking straight at the audience (direct address). The image is in front of the mast head 
  • Body language- quite inviting (smiling) and relaxed.  
  • Mast head- big, bold, blue (largest font size)
  • Colour scheme- Blue and yellow/orange
  • Cover lines on both sides, used different colours to explain the cover lines
  • this magazine is to inform and entertain the target audience
  • Barcode, price and issue number on the left side.

Press pack for NME


  • Key facts about when the magazine was produced meaning it has a wide audience
  • stats on their readers and what they like
  • Stats on the gender of their readers (73% male, 27% Female)
  • States that they try to target there female readers as well as their male readers
  • Says that their target audience is upcoming artists

Front page, Contents page and DPS for 'NME'

  • Masthead- Largest font size to attract the audience. this reflects the genre of the music, rock is very bold and direct, just like the text type.
  • No skyline because the picture and the main cover line are the most important 
  • Main cover line- "Haim, get the picture"- second largest font to attract the audience, to draw them in.
  • Picture- looking straight at the audience to attract the audience. The picture symbolises the article that is inside
  • Barcode and price on the right size 





  • contents arranged in columns t make it more clear and easier to understand, shows that it is a weekly magazine 'Inside this week' shows that this magazine is quite popular and is read alot 
  • numerical order so the audience can find the page they want too read.
  • colour scheme reflects the front page and the genre type, the red and black reflects the rock theme.
  • images reflect the genre, the artists reflect the rock genre

  • The language used is formal and reflects the genre type.

  •  The magazine has been going on for 30 years so as time has gone on their fan base and readers has grown

  • Masthead- "Kerrang" Largest font size. Usually behind the picture. 
  • Main cover line- "tonight alive" second largest font size to attract the audience
  • Picture- medium close up, looking straight at the audience. use of props (firework) 
  • Barcode on the right side, along with the price.
  • colours- yellow, red and black. Quite normal for the genre of the magazine.  (Rock)
  • the language used on the front page is captivating in order to lure in their audience
  • The genre is represented in the colours used and the font, the font is big and bold.
  • the use of mast heads, teasers and cover lines are very conventional for a rock magazine

  • Colour scheme- White and black, does not reflect the front page, but it still reflects the genre of rock as the black symbolises darkness.

  • Images reflect the genre of music and has the same picture as n the front cover this means that the story is quite important in the issue of the magazine. the lighting is clear and doesn't really reflect the genre as rock is normally seen as quite dark and edgy

  • Pictures reflect type of genre. the shot is quite close up and reflects the genre of music, as it very loud and rough. the article is about one of the biggest rock bands which means that they are used a lot in these rock magazines as they are very well known
  •  Colour scheme consistent to the front page this mirrors the genre of the music. red, yellow and white work very well together. also the red could signify blood or danger.
  • Fonts consistent throughout the page which make sit easier to read and understand, also makes the reader carry on reading.

Photoshop Workshop.

 Photoshop- test run.

  • First opened Photoshop add a A4 sheet (international paper)
  • Put the rulers in place for alignment of text 
  • Name your layers- each thing you add will have its own layer 
  • Add the picture
  • Control T- transforming the image.
  • hold shift while transforming
  • Click text tool, add the text.
  • Paint bucket tool to add colour to the page.
